Overview
What you get with a Zbolt awnings build
An awning turns your deck or patio from 'usable until 1 PM' into 'usable all day.' We build everything from simple cedar shade structures to motorized louvered roofs that close at the touch of a button when the afternoon thunderstorm rolls in.
We integrate awnings with new decks (most efficient — shared posts and footings) or retrofit them onto existing decks and patios. For the Wasatch Front, we usually recommend either cedar with a clear sealer for the warm wood look, or powder-coated aluminum for zero maintenance.
If you want a true outdoor room, we add motorized louvered covers — open for sun, angled for filtered light, fully closed and waterproof during storms. Pair with integrated lighting and infrared heaters and you've got a year-round outdoor living space.
The Upside
Why people choose this
- Extends usable deck hours into the afternoon and evening
- Cedar option: warm, natural, ages to a silver patina
- Aluminum option: zero maintenance, powder-coat colors to match
- Louvered option: motorized, app-controlled, rain-tight when closed
- Adds significant resale value when integrated with the deck
Trade-offs
What to know going in
- Cedar needs re-sealing every 2–3 years to keep the honey tone (or let it silver naturally)
- Louvered roof systems are a bigger investment — typically $12k+
- Retrofitting onto an existing deck sometimes requires footing upgrades

FAQ
Awnings questions, answered
Can I add an awning to my existing deck?
Usually yes. We inspect the existing footings and framing — if they were built to handle the added load, we tie in. If not, we add footings before we set posts.
Cedar vs aluminum?
Cedar is warmer-looking and cheaper up front but needs maintenance. Aluminum is more expensive initially, zero maintenance, and available in any color via powder coat. Most clients pick aluminum for new builds.
Do louvered roofs work in Utah snow?
Yes — premium louvered systems are engineered for snow load. We spec brands rated for Utah's snow zones.
